Add a Deceased Parent to a Family Photo

When a parent is gone, the family photos keep coming: holidays, birthdays, a new house, a new baby. If you want one picture where your mom or dad is with everyone again, upload the family photo and a clear photo of them. You get back one photo with them standing or sitting with the family, in the same light and color as the rest of the picture.

How it works

Two photos in, one photo out. Nothing to install and nothing to learn.

  1. First

Choose the family photo you want them in. A picture with a little room beside someone works best.

  2. Then

Add a clear photo of your mom or dad. A photo of an old print, taken with your phone, is fine.

  3. Last

Press the button. In about a minute you get the new photo, ready to download, print or send to family.

Choosing the photo of your parent

  • Pick one where their face is large, sharp and turned toward the camera. Head and shoulders is ideal.
  • Choose the age you want to remember. A photo from their later years fits a recent family photo most naturally; a younger photo works too if that is how you picture them.
  • Avoid sunglasses, hats that shade the face and photos where they are small in a crowd. If they are small, crop the photo around them first.
  • Black and white or faded photos are fine. They are brought into natural color to match the family photo.

Choosing the family photo

  • A photo taken in daylight or soft indoor light blends most naturally.
  • Leave some room at the edge of the group or beside one person, so there is a natural place for them.
  • Everyone already in the photo is kept exactly as they are: faces, clothes, poses and background.
  • If you have several family photos from the same day, try the one where people are standing loosely rather than tightly packed.

Sharing it with the family

A photo like this can bring up strong feelings. Many people show it first to the parent’s partner or to brothers and sisters, before sending it to the wider family or posting it. Some add a small note such as “with Dad, always” when they print or share it, so everyone knows it was made in memory.

Questions

How do I add my late father or mother to a family photo?

Upload the family photo as photo 1 and a clear photo of your parent as photo 2, then press the button. In about a minute you get one photo with them in the group, matched to the light and color of the family photo. Your first photo is free with a confirmed account.

Can I choose where my parent stands?

Not exactly. The AI places them where they fit most naturally, usually beside or just behind the others. To steer it, choose a family photo with space where you would like them to be.

Will the others in the photo be changed?

No. Everyone already in the photo keeps their face, pose and clothing. Only your parent is added.

How much does it cost?

Your first photo is free when you create an account and confirm your email. After that, photos come in one-time packs: 5 photos for $4.99, 15 for $9.99 or 40 for $19.99. One credit is one photo. There is no subscription, and you can also buy a pack without creating an account.

What if the photo does not come out right?

If a photo fails or times out, its credit goes back to your balance automatically. If the photo is made but the AI changed your loved one’s face and they do not look like themselves, email hello@adddeceasedlovedonetophoto.org from the address on your account (or with your order receipt) and we will give you one free redo of that photo. A sharper, larger photo of their face usually gives a much closer likeness.

What happens to the photos I upload?

The two photos you upload are only used to make your picture and are deleted automatically 24 hours after upload. The finished photo is kept privately in your account so you can download it again, until you delete it with your account (Settings → Security → Delete account, which removes your photos right away) or ask us at hello@adddeceasedlovedonetophoto.org. Photos are never shown to other visitors, sold or used to train AI.
